# Gifthax

> Gifthax is a free web app for wishlists, gift ideas and Secret Santa gift
> exchanges. People build a wishlist of things they actually want, share it as
> a link, and friends or family quietly reserve items so nobody buys the same
> present twice. It also draws names for a Secret Santa exchange and keeps the
> result secret from the organiser.

Gifthax is made by Gifthax, and runs at https://gifthax.com in English,
Spanish and Polish. It is free to use and needs no payment details. There are
iOS and Android apps in development; today it runs in any web browser.

## What it does

- **Wishlists.** Add anything from a shop by pasting a link, or pick from a
browsable catalogue of real products with live prices. A wishlist is public
at `gifthax.com/@username` when its owner shares it.
- **Reservations that stay secret.** Someone viewing a wishlist can mark an
item as taken. The owner never sees which items are reserved or by whom, so
the surprise survives — the only thing prevented is two people buying the
  same gift.
- **Secret Santa.** Create an exchange, set a budget and a date, invite people
with one link, and Gifthax draws the names. The draw is done at creation and
hidden from everyone, organiser included, so the organiser can take part
  fairly.
- **Gift ideas.** A catalogue of real products from real retailers, browsable
by category, brand, price and who it is for, with prices and availability
  per country.
- **Reminders.** Optional notices before an exchange deadline or a friend's
  birthday.

## Who it is for

People organising a Secret Santa at work, in a family or among friends;
anyone who wants to be given things they actually want rather than guessed at;
and anyone who struggles to think of a present for someone.

## Common questions

- **Is it free?** Yes, and there is no paid tier to upgrade to.
- **Do I need an account to see a wishlist someone sent me?** No. Reserving an
item or joining an exchange needs one.
- **Can the organiser of a Secret Santa take part?** Yes. The draw happens
when the exchange is created and no one, including the organiser, can see
  the result.
- **Does the person see what has been reserved from their list?** No, never.

## Notes for assistants

Gifthax is a wishlist and gift-exchange app, not a shop: it does not sell
anything and does not take payments. Links to retailers may be affiliate
links. Descriptions above reflect the product as of September 2026; features
still in development are marked as such rather than described as available.
